Anti-Bullying Day
Today is #AntiBullyingDay
What is a bully? Meriam-Webster defines a bully as follows:
a blustering, browbeating person, especially one who is habitually cruel, insulting, or threatening to others who are weaker, smaller, or in some way vulnerable.
Did you know provinces have legislation to protect against bullying? Not only can bullying fall under Human Rights Legislation, as we just discussed last week, but it can also fall under Violence and Harassment Legislation, such as Alberta OH&S Code Part 27.
It is imperative for organizations to watch out for signs of bullying, harassment, violence and intimidation in the workplace, and put effective controls in place to eliminate such actions and behaviours.
We are proud to say that we are now offering workplace violence and harassment training that can be tailored to your businesses individual policies and procedures, in alignment with the Alberta OH&S Code, Part 27 391 – an employer must ensure that workers are trained in:
(a) the recognition of violence and harassment
(b) the policies, procedures and workplace arrangements that the employer has developed and implemented to eliminate or control the hazards of violence and harassment
(c) the appropriate response to violence and harassment, including procedures for obtaining assistance, and
(d) the procedures for reporting, investigation and documenting incidents of violence and harassment.
If your organization doesn’t have a workplace violence and harassment program, give us a call, we can help get you on the path to compliance!
